"Patient Fruit" - Take a bite

“Patience is power.
Patience is not an absence of action;
rather it is "timing"
it waits on the right time to act,
for the right principles
and in the right way.”
Fulton J. Sheen

Patience - it is a gift that allows you to accept or tolerate problems without becoming irritated or angry. Patience is also a fruit...

Mmmm fruit is not usually the first thing to come to mind when we think of patience but I like the idea of thinking patience as a fruit. The fruit can either be bitter or so very sweet depending on how much you have - the more "patient fruit" the better. Have you ever felt that growling pain on your tummy when you are hungry? Some people get very irritated or whiny when they are hungry but if you have something to eat for example - fruit - the chances of becoming irritated are decreased.

Psalm 37:7-9 (NIV)

7 Be still before the Lord
and wait patiently for him;
do not fret when people succeed in their ways,
when they carry out their wicked schemes.
8 Refrain from anger and turn from wrath;
do not fret—it leads only to evil.
9 For those who are evil will be destroyed,
but those who hope in the Lord will inherit the land.

My metaphor about being hungry and eating fruit might not be the best but it helps me to understand the idea of patience better. Some people have it naturally, others have mastered it and other still need to learn it OR some people have a tree of patient fruit, others have started to grow their own tree of patient fruit and other still need to get the seeds to start growing the patient fruit.
Patience is good fruit. It helps to avoid the things that can turn into something ugly.

Patience is a very valuable fruit in our lives because it is the fruit of the Holy Spirit. Other sweet fruit include: Love, Joy, Kindness, Peace, Goodness, Faithfulness, Gentleness and Self-Control (Galatians 5:21-23). We should learn how to grow more patient. Yes it takes time to grow the tree and that can be a bitter feeling but at the end it is worth it. It can't do any harm to have more patience. The problem comes in when we have too little patience. We get irritated and angry and most of the time the actions that follow are un-called for.

Take a bite of that "Patient Fruit", take the seeds and let it grow.
T.
