Enjoy
JOY - a word that can be described as delight or bliss, a feeling that can be described as great pleasure or happiness, but can you feel joyful all the time? Is it possible to be happy every moment in life? Is it possible to feel great pleasure in everything we do?
I do not believe so.
I do not believe so.
Ecclesiastes 3:9-13
9 What gain has the worker from his toil? 10 I have seen the business that God has given to the children of man to be busy with. 11 He has made everything beautiful in its time. Also, he has put eternity into man's heart, yet so that he cannot find out what God has done from the beginning to the end. 12 I perceived that there is nothing better for them than to be joyful and to do good as long as they live; 13 also that everyone should eat and drink and take pleasure in all his toil—this is God's gift to man (Available Online from: http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Ecclesiastes+3%3A9-13&version=ESV ).
I believe that we should at least try to enjoy everything we do. Even though it does not always seem possible, we should try to find the 'joy' in each situation. There is always a brighter side to the dark side. There is always light at the end of the tunnel... yes the dark tunnel may seem like it goes on forever but it is not unending and the light will swallow the darkness at the end.
Kay Warren (2012:Online) describes joy as: the settled assurance that God is in control of all the details of your life, the quiet confidence that ultimately everything is going to be alright, and the determined choice to praise God in every situation.
God is in control of everything. He knows of everything. Psalm 139 tells us exactly that (Read Psalm 139 Online available from: http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Psalm+139&version=ESV ). We can be assured that everything will be alright because He is in control and he has given as the gift of joy and pleasure. To be able to enjoy something is a wonderful feeling and experience and we should seek to enjoy everything.
I am not naive. I know that some days nothing seems to be going right. I know that on some days we feel like giving up but I take pleasure in knowing that there is Something bigger than all my problems. There is Someone in control and He knows what He is doing. So even if the only joyful moment in your day is knowing that God is in control - enjoy THAT moment in time and take complete pleasure in it.
