Nature - The Green Gift

I don't go outside much but when I do I become very much aware of what I am experiencing - the sun on my skin, the wind softly caressing my face, the musical melody of the jingling leaves, the dancing flowers and the tjirping of the birds in my ears and the fragrance of nature filling my lungs as I inhale the air. Absolute bliss...

In nature I experience the amazing wonders of God. I often forget that He created it for me - for us to live in. Why then do so many people prefer to rather stay indoors? There are many reasons for example safety and pollution. Who wants to go outside and look over their shoulder the whole time? Who wants to go outside if the air is polluted and there is rubbish all around? How can the beauty of nature be experienced when there is so much breaking down the beauty?

I found a few verses in the word of God that gave the feeling of hundreds of butterflies softly sitting on me:

Psalm 8:4-5 (ESV)
4 what is man that you are mindful of him,
and the son of man that you care for him?
5 Yet you have made him a little lower than the heavenly beings[a]
and crowned him with glory and honor.

Psalm 104:14-21
You cause the grass to grow for the cattle, and plants for people to use, to bring forth food from the earth, and wine to gladden the human heart, oil to make the face shine, and bread to strengthen the human heart. The trees of the LORD are watered abundantly, the cedars of Lebanon that he planted. In them the birds build their nests; the stork has its home in the fir trees. The high mountains are for the wild goats; the rocks are a refuge for the coneys. You have made the moon to mark the seasons; the sun knows its time for setting. You make darkness, and it is night, when all the animals of the forest come creeping out. The young lions roar for their prey, seeking their food from God.

Psalm 104:1-35   (ESV)
Bless the Lord, O my soul! O Lord my God, you are very great! You are clothed with splendour and majesty, covering yourself with light as with a garment, stretching out the heavens like a tent. He lays the beams of his chambers on the waters; he makes the clouds his chariot; he rides on the wings of the wind; he makes his messengers winds, his ministers a flaming fire. He set the earth on its foundations, so that it should never be moved.

Jeremiah 51:16
Then he utters his voice, there is a multitude of waters in the heavens; and he causes the vapours to ascend from the ends of the earth: he makes lightnings with rain, and brings forth the wind out of his treasures.

These verses are some of the most beautiful describing the splendour of God and describing the "Green Gift" He gave to us. I am aware that humankind destroys the earth because of greed. Everyone wants more for themselves. More money, more clothes, more food, more, more, more and between wanting more and greed we forget about the 'green'.

Before man, there was only water, wind, trees, flowers, animals etc. It is the gift that God created before giving it to man to look after. God gave it to man and said that man should live in it, work it and take care of it (Genesis 2:15) but man is destroying the 'Green Root' with the "Greed Root".

How can the "Green Gift" of God then be enjoyed when it is being destroyed? My answer: It starts with you. Apart form what everyone says about not littering in the streets etc (that is important too), make your own garden beautiful. Take care of your gift. It has been given to us to enjoy - to live in, to work it and to take care of it.

Stop for a moment and experience nature, experience the beauty of His "Green Gift".

Experience His splendour in that which He has given to us.

T.
