Fear
Most of the time what I am afraid of... is the unknown. Not being sure of what comes next or how everything will work out is a feeling that I am all to familiar with.
The words of John Lennon intrigued me: “There are two basic motivating forces: fear and love. When we are afraid, we pull back from life. When we are in love, we open to all that life has to offer with passion, excitement, and acceptance. We need to learn to love ourselves first, in all our glory and our imperfections. If we cannot love ourselves, we cannot fully open to our ability to love others or our potential to create. Evolution and all hopes for a better world rest in the fearlessness and open-hearted vision of people who embrace life.”
According to "Psychology Today" fear is a "vital response to physical and emotional danger" (http://www.psychologytoday.com/basics/fear). It happens often that our fears hold us back. A traumatic experience can trigger the feeling of fear and sometimes it is hard to over come yet when we find the courage to expose ourselves to our inners fears, we find a way to move past them.
2 Timothy 1:7
...for God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control (Read full chapter Online available from: http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=2+Timothy+1&version=ESV ).
Fear keeps me from moving forward in life. If God gave me a spirit of power, love and self-control, I should be able to face and overcome my fear with love. God is love and He is powerful and He lives in me therefore I have everything I need in me to triumph my fears. Jesus loves me for who I am and He also loves me too much to leave me as I am but if Jesus can love me with all my imperfections, surely I can learn to love myself.
1 John 4:18 - There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out all fear.
Loving and trusting myself will help me to not be afraid of the unknown. It will help me rise above my fears and realise that to be afraid of something that has not yet happened is not common sense. To be afraid of something that has not yet happened, elevates your stress levels for no good reason. If we can face and overcome our fears, we will be in the position of doing so much more and accomplishing so much more.
Love yourself and be confident with who you are and most importantly, know Who lives within you and what He has given you. We serve a powerful loving God. The word of God has something to say about fear 365 times. That is once for everyday of the year. So, Why be afraid? Why fear when He is with us everyday, when He tells us that we do not need to be afraid?
I am challenging myself and you, the reader, to try to do exactly that which you are afraid of. Sleep without the night light on, Try not to kill that spider. Step out of the house. Shake someones hand without putting on hand sanitiser afterwards. Seize the moment. Don't think about all the negative "what ifs" but instead think about all the endless positive possibilities. Remember that we were born with love because God is love and we are made in His image and fear is something that we familiarised ourselves with as we grew up.
Forget fear and keep on smiling.

Hebrews 13:5-6
Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, "Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you." So we say with confidence, "The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid. What can man do to me?"
Forget fear and keep on smiling.
