Combat the Enemy with 3 Steps

The spiritual realm is very real... even though we cannot see it, it is there. The word of God reminds us that our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms (Ephesians 6:12)

It is therefore that we are encouraged in His word to put on the FULL ARMOUR OF GOD so that when the day of evil comes, we may be able to stand our ground, and after we have done everything, to stand, and having done all, to stand firm (Ephesians 6:13).

I was always taught that the devil cannot hear our thoughts so if I want to chase him away, I have to do so audibly in the Name of Jesus. I learned to say it out loud since I was a little girl BUT I did not always speak with the authority I have in Christ Jesus.
This year I really decided to dig a little deeper in to the theme of spiritual warfare because since the spiritual realm is a real thing, we need to be able to know how to fight the spiritual forces of evil. We need a prayer strategy!
I read a few books I got from my grandfather on spiritual warfare and then I found the steps in the Bible Plan – Our Modern Warfare Part 1 – (available on YouVersion Bible App).
I have added a few things such as scripture to better understand it (mainly for myself) but I am gladly sharing it with you.

PROTECT YOURSELF & CLAIM AUTHORITY

Before I get to the THREE STEPS in combating the enemy, I first have to remind YOU that YOU already have AUTHORITY through Christ Jesus, because His word says in Luke 10:19: I (the Lord) have given you AUTHORITY to trample on snakes and scorpions and to overcome ALL the power of the enemy; nothing will harm you.
Claim the authority that is already yours today!

It is also important to PROTECT YOURSELF – that is why this post basically started with putting on the full armour of God.
Stand therefore, having fastened on the belt of truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness, 15 and, as shoes for your feet, having put on the readiness given by the gospel of peace. 16 In all circumstances take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming darts of the evil one; 17 and take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God (Ephesians 6:14-17)

THE THREE STEPS

  • STEP 1 - Humble Yourself Before the Lord.

James 4:10 says - Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.
When you humble yourself before the Lord, you make way for His power to work in and through you. Pray that His wisdom, power, strength and courage will work through you for the battle (or situation) that you are facing.

  • STEP 2 - Speak the Word of God.

The Word of God is your weapon – it is your sword that you can wield in the battle against the enemy and you wield your sword by SPEAKING the WORD… how powerful is this weapon you have? Hebrews 4:12 says - For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.
Start wielding your sword in faith and authority in Christ.

  • STEP 3 - Verbally Command the Enemy in the Name of Jesus

Therefore God has highly exalted Him and bestowed on Him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father – Phil 2:9-11.
With a powerful name like the Name of Jesus, the enemy has no choice but to listen. Remember, earlier in this post I mentioned that the devil can't hear our thoughts, so when you command the enemy in the powerful name of Jesus – be specific and speak with authority backing yourself with the word of God and do it out loud! If you don't want anyone else to hear you, go somewhere where you can be alone, but it's important to verbally command the enemy to leave you.

You might feel silly at first, just claim that authority and don't back down. The more you start speaking God's word, the more empowered you will start feeling.
Ask the Holy Spirit to come over you and pray in the Spirit (Eph 6:18).

Just because we cant see the spiritual realm, doesn't mean it's not there, and that doesn't mean that the enemy won't try to discourage you.
The harder the enemy comes at you, the louder you speak, the harder you pray.
Don't forget that you are a warrior and you are already victorious in Christ.

Be Blessed - T
